This ad has been playing a lot lately. I keep seeing it and every time I see it I get annoyed. I don't get this ad. What is "that guy"? A guy who actually cares about his significant other and so will give here a pedicure if she asks. A guy who is not an asshole and when asked his opinion, gives it about makeup. A guy who actually spends time with his significant other. I don't get it.
What I do get is that since you are not "that guy" you need to buy diamonds. That it is Ok to be an asshole if you buy diamond. What I get is that diamonds make everything better. Well guess what, buying diamonds or any commercial good is not going to improve your relationship, it is not going to make her love you any more than she does and it is not the answer to all of life's issues. And if it does solve any of the issues or it does make her love you or it does improve your relationship, than that is a sad existence. So maybe you should spend more time with your significant other and less time shopping for that diamond.
Oh and by the way I strongly dislike diamonds and red roses. They are both so trite and cliche. I am supposed to spend two months salary on something to prove my love, yeah fuck that. Diamonds are a product that has its value artificially inflated so that people can make money. They are a clear stone, I want something with some color, with some real character, pearls, rubies, emeralds or anything that actually has some interest to it. Not to mention that diamonds are the causes of many wars in Africa which lead to much death and destruction.
So I say forget about the diamond and give your significant other a pedicure or put on her nail polish or just spend time with her and see what happens.
