New ones ... flat symmachiarii for the Roman game.

I think I have mentioned how easy and quick it is to order flats from Berliner Zinnfiguren in Germany - but how the best prices are to be had by browsing the 'flea market' section of their website ..

You can usually reckon painted 30mm foot will cost, say 3 to 5 Eu per figure ... 'blanks' (unpainted), say 1.5 Eu (or so depending on desirability) ...  But in the regular discount promos, prices as much as halve.

Now I have to acknowlege that these German chaps I bought are a little plain in their pose ... but at 5 for 19 figures I was clicking to buy.  The sculpting as actually quite neat ... the BZ shopping cart now works smoothly and takes PayPal online ... and the figures were on my desk in less than a week.

... which was good - as I had less than a week if I wanted (as intended) to use them to balance up the infantry in the game I was putting on at CoW ...

Thankfully, even if not a rush job, they are a tad quicker to paint than their fully round relatives.  Kind of 2-dimensional.  I start with enamels and finish with a glaze and (if not a bit of a rush like these) some oil effects.

I added staff figures and mixed a few javelin skirmishers into the front rank to make the 19 up to a unit of 30 figures + leader and standard bearer ... this is a big unit by TB standards but, unarmoured, it may well shrink down quite quickly (and at 30 figures will go nicely into 3 ranks for added security.

I also refurbished a unit of Roman foot.  I don't know what range they are from as a friend very kindly picked them up off a Bring & Buy and made me a birthday present of them ... They have turned out nicely ...

This is a standard unit of 20 ... 

I am always pleased when items from the 'back collection' get smartened-up, based and make it into games ... the collection gets bigger while the 'to do' list gets smaller ... and the wee men see action.
