Overlord 2011

Yesterday, 6th March, we ran a participation game at the show in Abingdon. basically the aim was for an American platoon to undertake a security sweep of the main track along which supplies ran back and forth.

The US players each had a squad and the VC was run by random cards and the umpire. All started quietly enough but things soon became messy as the US discovered the VC had laid a mine in the road and some local units were still in the area.

The game was run using our new modern warfare skirmish rules which worked well, the players soon getting the hang of the mechanics of moving, firing and calling in fire and air support.

What follows are some photos of the games we played. The idea is to publish the rules in a couple of months and create a blog for specific scenarios ranging from WWII to the modern day.

The US advancing, the cards are used to mix up the turn sequence as well as randomising any enemy activity during the game, so the players do not know who will move first or whether the cards are actually enemy or civilians.
An over view of the table, which was covered with light scrub and stands of trees.

A US squad approach the abandoned village, which was torched as it was cleared.
The US transports waiting for the call
Platoon leader, RTO and dog team waiting in the tree line

Air support was called in, along with a medevac, just in case
All in all a good game with some enough enemy activity to keep the US players on their toes throughout the game. I think I need more trees!!
